UN Human Rights Committee to review the following countries: Australia, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Jordan, Mauritius and Romania

GENEVA, Switzerland, October 12, 2017,-/African Media Agency (AMA)/- The UN Human Rights Committee, which monitors implementation by States of one of the main international human rights treaties, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is meeting in Geneva from 16 October to 10 November 2017.

The Committee will review these countries on the following dates: (18-19 October) Australia, (24-25 October) Cameroon, (16-17 October) Democratic Republic of the Congo, (17-18 October) Dominican Republic, (19-20) Jordan, (23-24 October) Mauritius and (25-26 October) Romania.

The above are among the 169 States that have ratified the ICCPR and so are required to be reviewed regularly by the Committee of 18 international independent experts. The Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.

The public sessions, which will be webcast at http://WebTv.un.org/, will take place from 10:00-13:00 and 15:00-18:00 at Palais Wilson, Geneva.

A news conference to discuss the findings is scheduled for 13.30 on Thursday, 9 November 2017, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva (Press Room 1).
